The Impact Centre at the University of Toronto is pleased to announce a new collaborative research project with ANGLE Biosciences entitled “Optimization of chemiluminescent sensing microstructures.”
ANGLE Biosciences Inc, a Toronto based subsidiary of ANGLE plc (Guildford, United Kingdom) combines world-leading expertise in liquid biopsies and biosensing to produce a range of cell isolation and multiplex analysis products. One of the company’s products is a workstation that allows users to rapidly analyze protein or RNA/DNA biomarkers vital for research or clinical diagnostics from a variety of biological samples.
The ANGLE Flow-Thru Chip® technology uses an array of microscopic channels that dynamically bind target molecules present in a sample flowing through the device. When interaction has occurred, a chemiluminescence signal is produced. The emitted light is observed using a camera to quickly and clearly indicate the presence of specific targets in the channels. This system allows ANGLE to offer a sensing workstation that delivers faster and more sensitive results than other technologies. Additional enhancement of the optical properties of the microscopic binding channels could further extend the detection limit of the instrument, translating to even more rapid detection and lower instrument cost.
Professor John Sipe at the University of Toronto is a recognized expert in optics and light-matter interactions with experience developing simple models to guide the solution of complicated problems. The project with Prof. Sipe will leverage expertise at the Impact Centre and ANGLE Biosciences to study the effects of altered channel properties on optical performance. An analytical model will be used to explore potential structures and guide robust simulations of final design and production of prototype materials at ANGLE Biosciences for testing.
