WIL mini-Symposium

Intended for: Post-secondary educators working in the field of Work-Integrated Learning

As our community grows, our shared knowledge and expereince offers a wealth of opportunity to cross-polinate our work, build relationships and connections, and cultivate a positive supportive network of professionals.

This mini- symposium on Work-Integrated Learning is the place where current and future practitioners of WIL pedagogy meet and share best practices, new ideas, and most importantly, share failures, disappointments and challenges.

On the agenda:

8:30am – Registration and breakfast
8:55am – Opening remarks
9:05am – Guest speaker (TBA)
9:30am – Small group discussion on topics #1 and #2
10:15am – Group debrief
10:35am – coffee break
10:45am – Small group discussion on topics #3 and #4
11:30am – Group debrief
11:50am – Closing remarks
12:00pm – Lunch (optional)

Group discussion instructions:

  • Four topics split into two Table Talk rounds. 1 & 2 first round; 3 & 4 second round
  • 45 minutes to discuss the topic as a table and capture highlights on chart paper
  • 10-minutes for each group to share with larger group and discuss
  • Repeat above for Second Table talk
  • Chart notes will be typed up and shared with list serve

The table topics will be:

  • WIL curriculum
  • Program evaluation
  • Establishing effective partnerships with placements
  • Engaging students before/during/after WIL

By the end of this mini symposium on WIL, participants will:

  1. Share their personal experience in WIL with their peers
  2. Engage in respectful discussion about their WIL experience with their peers
  3. Relate to proposed ideas and comments, acknowledging others’ input
  4. Listen to their peers’ WIL experience and propose their respectful views and ideas

(Note: hearing your feedback from previous events, we are no longer asking for case studies to be submitted before hand)
